Wepet Renpet 2027 ☥ Kemetic New Year — The Star Returns

ꜥpt-rnpt: “Opening of the Year.” The heliacal rising of Sopdet — Sirius, the Isis-star — on the eastern horizon just before sunrise. In 2027, this falls approximately July 19–23. The Nile flood would follow within days. The ancient Kemetic priests had been tracking Sopdet’s pre-dawn position for 83+ days before this moment, watching it creep back toward the horizon from the south.

This is the most important astronomical event in the Kemetic calendar. The star’s disappearance (70 days below the horizon) is Osiris in the Duat — the god in the invisible realm, being reconstituted. The return is Osiris reconstituted: the new year announced not by a date on a wall calendar but by the sky itself giving the signal. The new year begins not on January 1 but when the cosmos declares it. That is a fundamentally different relationship to time.

Thoth is the scribe who tracks the star — the keeper of the astronomical record, the god whose principle is: write what you observe so the knowledge is not lost. Ra is the solar principle whose disk the year belongs to — the sun at maximum power in Leo, approaching the arc before Akhet’s flood begins. Isis-Sopdet announces the return — she IS the star. The brightest light in the night sky bears her name because she carries the resurrection principle: what disappears always returns.

What to wear for the Kemetic New Year: something that declares you are tracking cycles, not just living in them. The difference between the person who marks January 1 because everyone else does and the person who marks July 19–23 because the sky gave the signal — that difference is in the clothing, the conversation it opens, and the practice it anchors. ☥

83-day countdown from May 1: The ancient priests began tracking approximately 83 days before the heliacal rising. Begin on May 1 — start the pre-dawn east-facing observation. Watch Sirius’s position shift each morning. This is astronomy, not astrology.

Pre-dawn observation east on July 19–23: Wake before sunrise. Face east. If Sirius is visible (at your latitude), observe it. If clouds obscure it, hold the intention. The orientation toward the horizon where Sopdet rises IS the practice. The priests maintained this for 3,000+ years under every condition.
