The West Calls It Winter. The Ancestors Called It Cultivation. ☥
PERET SEASON ☥ NOV 9 – MAR 9

Kemetic Winter Clothing ☥ Peret — The Season That Has No Western Name

The West calls this season winter — cold, darkness, ending. The ancestors called it Peret: emergence, cultivation, reconstitution, invisible growth. Same solar period. Completely different cosmological frame. Dress the season the ancestors knew.

Kemetic winter wear is not about warmth as an end in itself. It is about what you carry into the cultivation season. The hoodie, the jogger, the tee — these are cultivation-season armor. Thoth documents. Osiris reconstitutes. Isis gathers. Ptah builds in the void. Dress accordingly.

Kemetic Winter vs. Western Winter ☥

The Western concept of winter is: darkness, death, cold, ending. A season to endure, to survive, to wait out. The Kemetic concept of the same solar period — Peret — is the exact opposite: cultivation, emergence, reconstitution, invisible growth. Same astronomical event. Completely different cosmological framing.

In Kemet, the seasons were tied to the Nile, not to temperature: Akhet (Sep 11–Nov 9) was the flood — the black silt of fertility deposited by the river, Osiris dissolving into the water, the ancestors returning. Peret (Nov 9–Mar 9) was cultivation — the seeds in the ground, potential becoming form, the invisible work that makes the harvest possible. Shemu (Mar 9–Sep 11) was harvest — the visible result of the invisible work. The cycle is complete.

“Winter” clothing in the Kemetic tradition is not about warmth as an end in itself — it is about what you carry into the cultivation season. The hoodies, joggers, and tees are not winter fashion; they are cultivation-season armor. Thoth documents. Osiris reconstitutes. Isis gathers. Ptah builds in the void. When you put on an ancestral hoodie in November, you are dressing for the work the season actually requires.

The Western framing of winter as death and cold is a cosmological framework that treats the same period as negative. The Kemetic framing treats it as preparation. One of these framings produces the Harrington Effect — the seasonal collapse of creative and spiritual energy in November through January. The other produces the Peret understanding: the quiet months are the load-bearing months. What is built underground in winter determines everything about the spring emergence.

Kemetic Winter Wear ☥

The Peret season calls for clothing that carries the energy of the cultivation phase. For the colder months of the cultivation season, the 9 Ether catalog is built for this work: the Gods & Goddesses Hoodie ($65), the Maat Collection Hoodie ($65), the AnkhLife Brand Hoodie ($60), and the Deity Zip-Up Hoodies ($75) bring the full ancestral energy in layering pieces designed for the November through March period.

The Ancestral Joggers ($65) are the movement garment for the cultivation season — the early mornings, the slow builds, the quiet practices that Peret demands. Choose the deity whose energy governs your current phase: Osiris ☥ for reconstitution, Isis ☥ for gathering, Thoth ☥ for documentation, Ptah for the void-building phase. All available at /collection ☥.

Observing Kemetic Peret (Nov 9 – Mar 9) ☥

1.

Treat November 9 as your cultivation season opening — What are you planting? The Peret season does not begin with a resolution or a declaration — it begins with a seed. Name it. Write it down. This is the Thoth practice: the seed must be recorded before it can be evaluated at harvest.

2.

Wear the deity that governs your current phase — Osiris for reconstitution (when pieces are still being gathered), Isis for active gathering (when you are assembling the pieces), Thoth for documentation (when the underground work must be recorded to be valued), Ptah for the void-building phase (when you are creating something that does not yet have form). The deity you wear declares which phase of Peret you are in.

3.

Study the Peret teaching materials — The 9 Ether Field Guide ($18) ☥ and the Audiobook ($9.99) ☥ contain the complete Peret teaching — the three Kemetic seasons, the Osiris agricultural myth, the Thoth documentation practice, the Peret opening and closing ceremonies.

4.

Close Peret on March 9 with a harvest inventory — What emerged? What grew from the seeds you planted on November 9? What is still underground but moving? Shemu (the harvest season) opens March 9. The Peret work becomes visible at Shemu. The crop is the point.

This is not winter. This is cultivation season. Dress accordingly. ☥
